Offended or Empathy

People never seize to amaze me. They read this and instead of any empathy they find reason to be offended. This is my story and feeling of losing my voice and it offends you?
Do we have to experience something to really understand it or to have true empathy? I once heard until your sick yourself you can’t understand how others feel. Or you can never understand how it feels to lose a child. Or to go through trauma. Can we have true understanding with what they went through? Can we have true empathy and compassion for what we don’t fully understand? Or will our lack of understanding naturally cause us to find offensive?
I want to believe we can have empathy at least some. But yes, experience helps. And I suppose your life experience could affect your view either way. What I mean if someone experienced something or their family did, they could have less empathy for what others experience, ‘their situation is not so bad’, ‘or my families, friend's or mine was worse’, or whatever emotional comparison they may make.
Unless we walk in the other person’s shoes, we can’t know. Even if it’s our close family or loved one. Hug your loved ones because I’m sure they need it, hugs are healing.
