Ignoring People

Recently 3 people told me that I ignore people now that I’m mute. They say my personality has changed. First off, my personality has changed you try having a life altering disability change a basic human motor function and your personality not change. But 2 of these people didn’t know me before so seriously how do they know? As for ignoring people. One of these people was my daughter, she goes so far as to say I fake deaf! Slow down! That is a big NO very offensive, and I would not do that. What she doesn’t understand is when we go shopping yes, I do ignore people, I don’t I need someone to interpret and explain why my family is talking to me, but I am signing. I get looks or even bag checks. Okay bags checked happened once but still it’s not people’s business and I don’t care to explain it to every cashier or to over friendly people smiling or talking to the baby. It’s not faking deaf it’s I’m shopping and not explaining my life to you. As for the other 2 that say I’m ignoring people, I think it’s because people who talk talk to each other. If they want to talk to me, they ask the one person in the group that can sign to ask me something looking at them when they do, not me. I’m not in the conversation most of the time and if I am for a short time, their patience is short no time to watch me sign and to listen to an interpreter. So let them talk I guess I’ll ignore. And yes, I’ve changed, the old me was friendly and engaging. This me is silent.
